Here’s a super quick tutorial on how to make a seamless knotted baby hat. Since all of the patterns I found online had seams on the inside, which are probably not very confortable for a newborn baby. I’ve decided to share the pattern I created with you.
The Tutorial:
What you’ll need:
- stretchy jersey fabric of your choice
- the pattern (link down below)
- fabric scissors
- normal scissors
- a pencil or some pins
- a sewing machine or a needle & thred

Make sure you check the „print to actual size“ option when printing your pattern.
You’ll need to overlap the grey area to combine both pieces of the pattern. Use some tape to make sure they stick together and cut it out.
For each hat, you’ll need two of these pieces. The easiest way is to fold the fabric and place the pattern on top. Use a pencil to draw the outline or some pins to hold it in place. Then cut out your fabric
Pin the two fabric pieces together and sew them all the way around, leaving an opening at the top. Since the fabric is stretchy, I’m using the zig zag stitch on my sewing machine, but you cand also use an overlock stitch or sew the hat by hand since it it pretty tiny.
Now turn your hat right side out through that opening we created at the top and use an iron to press the seam.
Then fold the edges of the opening inwards and iron them to secure them in place. Before closing tis gap, make sure the hat fits nicely since you could take it in at this point and make it smaller if necessary.
Use a straight stitch to close the gap from the top of your hat.
Now all that’s left to do is to fold the rounded part inwards since this will be the inside of the hat, fold the brim outwards as much as necessary and make a knot at the top.

Thank you so much! I love the simplicity and the no-seam style!
Super cute! Going to give it a try this week. Thanks for sharing. Quick note, an iron wasn’t mentioned in the what you’ll need section. Guess it is a basic sewing necessity but I can’t seem to find mine :s LOL.
Thank you so very much!!!
Very cute pattern. Thanks for your generosity in sharing.
How much stretch is needed in the fabric?
